DIY: Display for Escort Cards

A couple of days ago, I posted that there were two DIY things I did for our wedding that I was really proud of. The first was my pink-dyed crinoline, which is in the post right before this one. The second one is the display for our escort cards.
I ended up making three of these displays for about 240 guests, and I wish I had better pictures of these. I didn't think about it until after the wedding. Not only were these super easy to make, they were also inexpensive!

I went to Old Time Pottery and bought 3 hideous paintings just so I could use the frames that measure 24x36. I think these were on sale so I only paid $10 for each frame.

I went to the fabric store and bought white fabric to use as a base. You can't tell in the picture, but I put some batting underneath the white fabric so it looked a little cushiony. For the fabric and batting for all three frames, I spent about $12.

I went to Michael's and bought some purple cardstock and purple ribbon. I also had to buy a heavy duty stapler. Instead of spending a bit more money on white cardstock, I just used printer paper that we had in the printer. It looked just as good as cardstock.

At our reception site we just placed these frames on easels, and we got a lot of compliments on our display. It served its purpose, but it also made our reception a little more like Dave and me. =)

One thing I could not live without while planning the wedding was my papercutter! My fiance at the time was the one who got it for me. LOVE!

So these pictures are just for your enjoyment. I am not a very good jumper to begin with, and it was even harder when you're wearing a wedding dress.

DIY Stuff I did for my Wedding

My husband and I got married in October of 2011, and it was the best day of my life!

It was also the most expensive day of my life, too! In order to cut costs, I tried to do a lot of stuff myself.

The easiest things were the invitations and the wedding programs. Here are the pictures of our invitations. I couldn't find the reception card but you can see the invitation and the RSVP card. The reception card is similar to the RSVP. After scouring the web, I found that www.cardsandpockets.com had the best prices for card stock. They also had the best selection if you're looking for patterns. You can't really tell in the pictures, but I embossed the RSVP and reception cards. I also found a decorative puncher to add some flair to the actual invitation because I thought it was too plain with so much white.
I packaged everything together by tying a piece of matching thread and a tag with an embossed "G&D" around it. It was time-consuming because the thread was so tiny, but it was worth it in my opinion.
By the time I made the wedding programs, I was so exhausted from all the wedding stuff that I kept it really simple.
For me, there were two shining moments when it came to my DIY preparations. The first is my dyed crinoline that I put under my wedding gown. For the most part, no one really sees whats under your dress, but the pink crinoline really made me feel special. I bought the crinoline from eBay for cheap, bought pink dye from Hobby Lobby, and followed the instructions to dye it pink. This is the outcome!
Here are a couple of pictures of the crinoline under my dress. I LOVE these pictures!

My husband and I had a choreographed first dance, and the pink crinoline was perfect for that!

Because I mentioned our first dance, I am posting it to the this blog for your enjoyment and laughter! Happy wedding planning!

I will post my second DIY project for my wedding in a different post. =)
